Home Improvement: Water Damage Aftermath

There’s something particularly heart breaking about house fires.  They tear through your home, destroying all those things you’ve spent a lifetime accruing, obliterating your cherished memories and most valuable possessions mercilessly and without thought.

What’s worse, though, is the aftermath.  Few people consider it until they suffer a house fire, but often the most damaging aspect is the water damage caused by the fire service.

Think about it.  Thousands of gallons of water can be forced into your home through high powered hoses in order to douse a fire.  What hasn’t already been destroyed by the smoke and flames can be finished off by the water.  In fact, the water damage can be enough to destroy a building whose structural elements have already been weakened by fire.

In the days following a fire it can be the water damage that is the most heart breaking.  Walking into your damaged home is a terrible experience, and the thought that you must act quickly to prevent further damage is terrible.  You see, once a fire has been doused that’s pretty much it.  There’s no additional damage, so all you have to do is rebuild.  When your home suffers from water damage, though, the destruction continues until every drop of water has been removed.

It’s vital, then, to call out a water damage restoration service following a house fire to assess the damage and work out a plan of action to minimize additional damage and make sure your home is safe and secure.  Water damage restoration companies use high tech equipment – pumps, dehumidifiers and much, much more – to remove every trace of water from a building.  Once your home is clear they can then make an assessment of the damage, ascertaining the structural safety of the building and helping repair any weak points.

It’s not a pleasant thought to consider water damage following a house fire, but if you want to save your home you must act quickly and decisively to prevent further damage.  With the right help t the right time you could be back in your home in a matter of days.  If you dawdle, though, you may lose your home entirely.  It’s your call.
